Best way to teach a dog to retrieve for fun?

Whats the best way to teach a dog to retrieve for fun?
She is one year old and very active, she chases the toy then just chews it!
Answers:
rewarding the dog when she comes bk with the toy or taking it from her if she's close to range. Remember you can reward with praise and not just snacks, be really enthuastic and make your voice sound exciting. What sort of dog is she?? I had a * tzu who would wear your arm out wanting a tennis ball to be thrown, maybe its just not in her breed to retrieve (just a thought)
Practice with the dog
have a treat in your hand and teach her that if she brings it back she gets a treat
repetition throw it, watch her get it, take it, reward her.start with short distance building up.
use a leash to pull her back to you when she has the toy in her mouth while saying retrieve then give her a treat. eventually she will do this without needing the leash and you can remove it. thats how i taught my dog and bless her heart shes the dumbest animal ive ever seen. i love her though.
With our dog, we used 2 people.one threw the toy and the dog chased it, the other person picked up the toy and put it in the dogs mouth. Then I would call him and he'd bring me the toy. We did this over and over until he just started getting it himself and bringing it back.
start by using their favourite toy attach the dog to a long leash say fetch throw the toy instinctly the dog will go for it use the long leash to bring the dog back when he comes back and release the toy reward him and give him plenty of praise repeat until he understands what fetch means. Depending on the breed of dog should understand in less than a week.
keep throwing whatever yor throwing and if he doesn't bring it then get it from him and say good boy and throw it again and keep going this and once he finally brings it back do just like you would a child and make a big deal about it tell him what a good boy he is and a little rub and then throw it again keep practicing and it will eventually click in.
I took my Retriever training at three month old.he picked a peace of rag up with my scent on it out of about twenty others,I felt so proud.
What you want to do is hide the toy in a room and have him find it himself, then tell him how clever he is afterwards.before you start rub your hands over the toy your sent will be on it then.good luck with him.
