Bringing Princess Home..?

Hi All,

We have a maltese terrier, Princess who is approx 4 years old.

During the last 3 months, Princess has been living with Mum who is home all day and her two dogs. This is because we have moved into a new house and there were no fences.

Now, the fences are in and I'm a little concerned about how she will react to not having full time attention and company. My husband works nights and is home during the day, but there is a two hour gap between when I leave for work and when he gets home.

I worry that she will be lonely.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make this transition easier for my little girl?

I was thinking of getting her a companion, a puppy perhaps?

Any input is welcome.

Cheers,

Libby

Don't get a puppy. It will only complicate things, new environment and a dog to compete with for attention..not a good combo.

It will take her at least several weeks to get used to her new home. Get her a kong, and fill it with a mix of yogurt, hot dog bits, and pieces of cheese and freeze it in a plastic container for at least 4 hours. Give it to her to keep her occupied during the time she will be home alone.

If she has a favorite, toy/pillow/blanket bring it into your home to give her something familiar to hold onto.

Give her plenty of praise and love, and she will adjust to her new home.

Please email me at libertydogtraining@yahoo.com and I will help you with any other questions you have regarding training or her transition into your home.

Good luck!

i think she will be fine but if you want to get her a little buddy then go for it. she would prob. love havin a buddy around.
She will be fine, you are a great owner for being this concerned, princess will be fine wherever she is as long as she is with you, i have learned in my classes that a dog is comfortable wherever they go as long as they are with their owner. as far as getting a puppy, that would be up to you, i thought about getting another for my little boy but he seems to enjoy the time he has on his own, but anyways i would only get another puppy if she really enjoys being around other dogs, because you wouldn't want her getting annoyed by it and do something, so good luck
