British Bulldogs?

I have heard the B.B.'s have lots of health problems. Is this true? also, does anyone know a good place to get a B.B. puppy? cheers!

Hi if you are in the UK go online to google %26 look for Dog Breeders Dirrectory %26 you will find breeders of Bulldogs.
As for the health question the answer is yes they do suffer from a number of heath problems %26 are very difficult to bred. Most of the problems are breathing %26 I have seen one swallow it's tongue at a show dog meeting.that was not the pleasantest of things to watch I have to say.Matng problems %26 birthing problems as Bulldogs are very much made up of all the defects that are not allowed in other breeds like undeshot mouths where the lower jaw is much longer that the top making the nose much shorter %26 more difficult for the animal to breath.barrel chests %26 large head that make birthing near impossible %26 that means a secsion to be born.screw tails.%26 so on.people love them regardless of the man made health problems but each to their own I guess.Regards Jake

it's better to get a mongrel dog as they don't have many health problems
I'm not sure what a brittish bulldog is? Could it be the English bulldog by another name?

regardless, where you get your pup depends on whether you want a show quality dog or simply a pet. There are so many irresponsible back yard breeders and puppy mills (which is where most pet store dogs come from btw) though, that I would suggest whatever breed your interested in you check in to reputable breeders in your area. A lot of breeds have local "clubs" whichis a good way to find a breeder / ask your vet for a referral. Try looking around online as well.
Many breeds also have breed specific rescues.. 2nd hand dogs that need a home. It is harder to geta "puppy" from such places, but the up side (besides recueing a dog) is that you will have a better idea of the dogs temperment , etc onc eit is alittle older.

btw, as to the "mongrel" comment.. i've got nothing against mutts so dont get me wrong here, but it's not exactly true that you'll experience less health problems. What is true is that with pure bred dogs you have a history to go on, and thus a head's up on possible health concerns that are breed specific. (which is why about every breed has a list of them) with mixed pups it's kind of a shot in the dark as far as health goes b/c you dont have the same backgrounf info to go on.
i wouldnt say either is more healthy than the other.
There's *NO SUCH THING*!
NOR "english" for that matter!!
Just "Bulldog"!! NO MODIFIER!!

Go read the BREED STANDARD @ the AKC site!
they (english bulldogs) have tons of health problems. they have been bred to a point where they can't even mate or whelp a litter of pups without human intervention.
i don't really think BB dog have alot of probs.try to contact main BB dog breeder through earnestangpets@skim.com.
bye
