Boxer breed dogs around children? Tell me your opinion of these dogs for a family pet?

You Would Seriously Have To Be Brain Dead To Get One Of These Dogs If You Have Kids.Really ..Seriously .Please Don't..All Time And Money We Spend Trying To Protect Kids And Then People Do Dumb Crap Like Getting Vicious Animals For Pets.Common Sense..Should Be Illegal..

Funny..The Person That Gave Me A Thumbs Down Is Prolly One Of Them Idiots That Actually Has Kids And Is Dumb Enough To Have One Of These Dogs. You Know Who You Are.Well Heres A Tissue For When It Rips Your Kids Face Off..
they are large dogs, they are a fighter breed, and they tend to get tumors on the skin, so they are expensive vet wise. i wouldnt put them with kids but lots of people do, so its your choice.
If raised around children they will make great dogs for kids. Boxers love to play rough and tumble games but can also be gentle enough for young children. Boxers don't live very long though from what I've heard. A friend of mine breeds them and she said they can have all sorts of health problems.
My mom grew up with a boxer and swears by the breed to be a great family dog. He was very protective of their family and never let anyone come near them when they were kids, tho I don't think this is normal behavior for the breed really. They're usually just sweet happy dogs. I've never heard of Boxers being used for fighting either. don't know what source that came from. Check out the temperment write up on the Boxer breed here. http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/boxer.htm. It says they are known for how good they are with children!

I've never had one personally, but I have NEVER met a mean boxer in my life! I have a friend who has one from a rescue and he's the sweetest dog. I'd say that if you start with a puppy or a properly evaluated rescue, you should have a great pet!
I grew up with 2 boxers and they were great. Very gentle. Females.
They are not good for kids, as a matter of fact, my city just banned these dogs along with pit bulls and rotweilers.
they are a wonderful dog to have as a child, but they have a short lifespan. im currently 20 and we got ours when i was 7 and he died a yr and a half ago. we never had a problem, didn't bark, unless scared.never bit anyone, in anger we would get him riled up and he would play bite but never anything to break the skin.they aren't a overly large breed. that link tells you a good bit. but from my personal expirience the boxer is a good family dog. will protect you and be your best friend
Buy a puppy, and you should be fine. They are great family dogs
My 3 yr old granddaughter has lived with 2 female boxers her whole life. She loves them, and they love her! Although they are hyper by nature, they are always gentle with her. If they don't want her to play with them, they just walk away. They're great dogs, and very protective of anyone they love.
it depends on the dog, but they can be very loving.

personally, i love pit bulls, and i have kids and one has never bitten any of my kids or their friends. it depends on how they are raised. in 20 years, only one has actually bitten anyone and it was to protect me.

boxers are bigger dogs and they do need to be able to run and play.
i have a 4month old boxer, and she does great with the kids i have a three year old and a 5 year old. am more worried about what the kids will do to the dog than what the dog will do to the kids.
they are not a fighting breed, they are called a working breed cause they are used for many things. police, thearpy and seach and rescure.
yes they are a large breed but they dont get any bigger than a shepard or lab.
and like everyother breed they do have health problems but all breeds of dogs has some kinda problem that can arise. a dog from a good breeder lessens your chance of getting a defective pup.
dogs are a product of their enviorment they will do as you teach them..there are no bad breeds just bad people.
Boxers can be wonderful dogs, if brought up right. As with any breed, two things are very important:

1. Training
-Enroll in puppy classes. It can be fun and
will also teach your children correct
behavior around your dog and other dogs.

2. Socialization
-Most dogs will bite and act agressively out
of fear. Don't put your dog or your
children in this situation. Expose your dog
to EVERYTHING that could potentially be
scary.wheelchairs, strollers, cars, etc.

I have Rottweilers, and though they aren't for everyone, if well-trained and well-socialized, then are invaluable companions. With the right attitude and commitment, you and your family will have a wonderful pet with a Boxer or any other dog. Good luck!
I would highly recommend a Boxer, I own 2 and they are wonderful. Puppies tend to jump and have to be trained not to and they do require training. Check to see if there is a Boxer Rescue in your area and if they have any dogs that would work for you and your family. They are wonderful animals - loyal, protective and keep you laughing all the time. Both of mine are rescues and they are very good with kids.
