can dogs shiver from the cold?

my dog has started shaking and shivering for no apparent reason any ideas?
Answers:
My mongrel shakes alot. mostly because he is cold. but also he had problems with his muscels when he was a puppy and now the quiver if he sits still for two long at a time.

but yes a dog can shiver in the cold and sometimes for no apparent reason, also check your house to see if there is anything that could be making him nervouse. if it persists consult your vet.
it could be nervousness or she could be cold.
yes they can shiver from cold and shiver because they're nervous
Take im to the vet hun. It could be a fear of something or anything. Get im checked out.
our dog shakes all the time when he is cold - we just wrap him in a blanket and he's fine
Yes.
Why not?
could be cold but is it possible that your dog is worrying about something? - my dog used to shiver for about a month after fireworks night because he was scared!!
If you are in cold weather right now, get a heating pad and place it unter a blanket where ever he sleeps or lays the warm blanket will help he a lot. My border collie did that a lot until she got use to the weather change and she still likes the pad under her blankets.
If she is a short haired dog then it is possible that it is the cold; the best solution for that would be a dog coat. I have a rat terrior and she literally freezes without the thing. Other than that your dog could have been scared by something or someone. It really depends on how she acts around you.
If it is warm when it starts shaking and shivering I would take the dog to a vet and find out if something is going on.
yep my labrador is a right wimp he shivers when i make him go out in the garden to do his buisiness, but my other 2 dogs don't seem to be as bothered by the cold when i let them all out.

i don't leave them out for long either just till there done lol
If it happened all of a sudden I say vet. If you were giving him a bath or he got into some water outside I say he's just cold. They do shiver from cold and from nerves. In some cases though it could be something else which is why I would say vet.
Sure, all dogs can shiver, but they are just as likelly to shiver from excitement as they are from the cold. Shivering increases body temp, and panting decreeses body temp.
Yes they sure can. My oldest girl seems to get cold easier as she ages. I get her to lie in front of the fire for a while, and she soon warms up and is a happy bunny again.
he may need a jab
Absolutely! Dogs get cold just like people, especially smaller dogs! If that is the case, get him/her a sweater. Some people think that putting a sweater on dogs is "cruel" or whatever they want to call it, but it really works. Your dog will love you for it.
My dog shivers when he's cold but he also shivers if he's nervous.
Could be from the cold weather if it is outside when this occurs. Could be a multitude of things if it doesn't. IMO, he should see a vet and get a proper diagnosis. If it is from being out in the cold, the get him a sweater or coat. They make them for dogs.
Dogs shiver from being cold %26 from being scared.
yeah they do but if its not obviously cold it will mean he or she is nervous.
