basset hound eats his own pooh?

I have a 1y/o basset, and I have noticed that lately he has been eating his own pooh, is there a logical explaination to this?
Answers:
Yes, and every dog does it by the way.
Here scroll down to "why dogs (and other animals) eat poop

I am afraid it is true.
Hounds are scent happy, will eat till they explode. Pet store should have product you sprinkle on, or put in diet, or on the pooh. Logical explanation, bad habit. Try vinegar spray too.
Get Deter you can find it at http://www.vetvax.com/petmedicines.html.

Give them a pill everyday for how long the box said to stop this problem.

Good luck!
here is a paragraph from a site i saw once it explains it all

Why particular individuals indulge in the habit of coprophagia despite the fact that their owners provide them with their food has been the subject of several explanations. These include: dietary deficiency; a learnt behavior developed during a period of boredom e.g. during prolonged kenneling in puppy hood; a significantly high incidence has been found in puppies that have had to fend for themselves, strays for example (Serpell and Jagoe 1995). Sometimes the faeces seem to have food value because of the richness of the depositors diet and/or the fact that not all nutrients have been drawn out during digestion. Perhaps combinations of these are possibilities in different cases.
