Beagle question?

I want to get a Beagle. My only concern is that I heard it barks a lot. Can this be trained out of it? Or is it more likely not to bark with a cat in the house too? I don't want more than one dog, but I was thinking about getting a cat too. Thanks! Please no sarcastic or insulting remarks.

The best way to find the right beagle is to meet the parents, especially the mother.. If she is exactly as you would want your beagle to be, then chances are good that her pups will be easy to live with.. If Mom sets up a howl, or is ill mannered, her pups will likely be the same..she imprints a lot on them before they are weaned..
Beagles do fine with cats..they DO need long walks..
this would be a good place to get one, as they can tell you much about it before you adopt it..Many are already potty trained > http://search.petfinder.com/search/searc.
Just put in your own zip code to find the ones nearest you, and then click on the puppy's name to get more information..
who could resist a baby such as this! >http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/disp.

beagles are not that big of barkers actually we have had our 3 yrs and the only time she barks is when someone pulls in which is a good thing i think good luck
Beagles are big working dogs, and if they bark it is loud. They also need much more exercise than a normal dog to keep them fit and well. The beagle when fully grown will probably eat your cat in one gulp.
As long as the dog isnt bored, it wont bark. Beagles can howl tho ,,, lol
There is one thing you do have to be careful of with beagles, they are hunting hounds and if they get a scent they may be off into the distance, not listening to you. So good strong fences are a must.

They are really nice dogs, good luck

Origami .. Beagles are not big working dogs, they are medium (hunting) hounds
Its sad when we have to constantly add things like 'Please no sarcastic or insulting remarks.' cuz you know they will leave them. I think any dog can be trained to not bark. My dog hardly barks at all, but of coarse there are times when they do.
My Molly is six months old. She is a pure beagle, without papers. She is the sweetest dog. From the day we got her she has enjoyed being in our arms, on our lap, cuddling and being affectionate. She only ever barks when she is playing and things are not going her way. She usually whines, which may become a howl when she is older. She is vocal, though. This is more like a talk than a bark. It is not loud.
While growing up my family had a beagle (Tuffy). She also did not bark- not even when people rang the doorbell. She, like Molly, was very vocal. She howled much more than Molly- usually when there was a lot of noise- a loud movie, my father yelling, someone singing loudly to the radio.
I love my little Molly is the most wonderful dog! I would get another beagle tomorrow!
